Bhutan Visa & Airlines

The only way visitors may enter Bhutan is by booking a tour or trek with a Licensed Tour Operator in Bhutan who obtains your Visas and, if you are flying, your Druk Air tickets Visas are required for travelling to Bhutan and applications are processed through Itinerary Bhutan in conjunction with your tour booking. No foreign missions/embassies abroad grant Bhutan tourist visas. Scanned passport copies, in color, are required at least 4 weeks prior to your date of travel. The passport must be valid for at least 6 months. Visa applications are cleared in advance, visa clearance numbers issued and forwarded to overseas travel agents and clients. The actual visa is stamped on passports when you enter the country.

The most convenient way of entering Bhutan is by Druk Air, the country’s national, and so far only, carrier. As flights can be delayed by weather conditions, particularly during the summer months, it is advisable to plan for 24 hours at either end of your Druk Air connections. The following airports are connected with Druk Air flights:

  • India – Kolkata, Delhi, Gaya
  • Nepal – Kathmandu
  • Thailand – Bangkok
  • Bangladesh – Dhaka
  • Singapore

Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines( private) flies several times a week between these destinations and Paro, Bhutan, but flight timings and frequency vary according to season. For the latest flight schedules, contact us.

If you are traveling by land from India, there are three points of entry to Bhutan:

  • Phuentsholing in the southwest
  • Gelephu in south central area
  • Samdrup Jongkhar in the southeast

All three towns can be convenient entry or exit points for travelers planning visits to the Indian states of Sikkim, West Bengal and Assam. The nearest airport to Phuentsholing is Bagdogra, West Bengal, about a 4 hour drive to the border. Samdrup Jongkhar is about 3 hours from Guwahati, the capital of Assam.
